Click-to-WhatsApp ads to Kommo: track every lead with the official API
·
When a customer messages you from a Meta Click-to-WhatsApp ad, Waply writes the ad attribution to the Kommo lead. Waply fills Kommo's UTM fields (from your ad URL, or with fallback values when it has none) and ten Waply lead fields, including Waply CTWA Click ID. It works on the official WhatsApp Cloud API, and Waply adds those lead fields to your Kommo account when you connect it.
This guide is for teams that run Click-to-WhatsApp ads on Facebook or Instagram and work their leads in Kommo. It shows how those leads arrive through Waply, which attribution fields you get on each lead, how to set up your ads for clean data and where the 72-hour free entry point window fits.

How Click-to-WhatsApp leads reach Kommo through Waply
A Click-to-WhatsApp ad opens a WhatsApp chat with your business. When that first message arrives, Meta includes a referral with the ad data. Waply reads it and writes the attribution to the customer's lead in Kommo, from the message that comes from the ad.
What you need
Waply connected to Kommo with your number on the official WhatsApp Cloud API. If you haven't connected it yet, follow the connection guide first; nothing extra is needed for ads.
Which attribution fields Waply saves on the Kommo lead
UTM fields (from your ad URL)
If your ad's destination URL has UTM parameters, Waply copies them to Kommo's UTM fields: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content and utm_term.
Fallback values when the ad URL has no UTMs
Fallback values Waply uses for each missing UTM
| UTM field | Value without a UTM parameter |
|---|---|
| UTM_SOURCE | meta |
| UTM_MEDIUM | ctwa_ad (ad), ctwa_post (post) or ctwa (other source) |
| UTM_CAMPAIGN | The ad headline |
| UTM_CONTENT | The ad ID (source ID) |
Waply ad fields, including CTWA Click ID

| Waply Source Type | Whether the source is an ad or a post |

Example: one ad message, the resulting lead
An ad with the URL https://example.com/landing?utm_source=instagram&utm_campaign=launch, ID 23850000000000000 and the headline Launch offer brings in a message. The lead gets:
- UTM_SOURCE = instagram (from the URL)
- UTM_MEDIUM = ctwa_ad (fallback, because the URL has no utm_medium)
- UTM_CAMPAIGN = launch (from the URL, so the headline isn't used)
- UTM_CONTENT = 23850000000000000 (the ad ID)
Set up your ads for clean attribution
- Add utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to the destination URL of each Click-to-WhatsApp ad, with the names you use in your reports.
- In Kommo, open a lead that came from an ad and check its UTM fields and the Waply ad fields.
- Filter or segment your leads in Kommo by these fields, for example UTM_MEDIUM = ctwa_ad, to see which leads came from ads.
Leave a UTM out and Waply still fills it with the fallback value, so every ad lead carries at least its source, medium and ad ID.
